I have yet to try a restaurant in Warren that hasn’t blown me away. There seems to be a culture among the town’s restaurateurs of using high-quality, fresh ingredients and carefully designed and interesting menus.

Case in point, my wife, daughter and I dropped by The Revival for dinner on a recent afternoon, on the corner of Miller and Water streets. It’s across the street from another Warren delight, the burgers-and-tacos gastropub Square Peg, making this my new favorite street corner.

The Revival, a modern American restaurant and whiskey bar, aims more upscale than its neighbor but isn’t by any means stuffy. The interior has a classy but comfortable atmosphere, rich with dark tones, thick decorative glass, and simple, tasteful decor. A well-stocked bar stands along one side of the dining area, which is split into two rooms by a partial wall — one livelier by the bar and kitchen with bench seating covered in throw pillows, and the other quieter and looking out over Water Street.

In the quieter dining room, the three of us checked out the menus. My wife and I had iced tea ($2.50) but there’s a lot to recommend for drinkers. The specialty cocktail list is intriguing, with drinks like the cucumber mule with vodka, muddled cucumbers, lime juice and ginger beer, or the fig Manhattan, with fig-infused rye whiskey with sweet vermouth and orange bitters. The lengthy list of wines features varieties from across the globe, some produced locally, many available by the glass. There’s a great range of microbrew beers, bottled and on draught, and a stunning selection of bourbons and ryes — I counted 34 bourbons listed. If you’re having trouble picking just one brand, sample three — they offer flights of wine, beer or whiskey.
